Horse-Drawn Funerals
T.Cribb & Sons are proud to offer traditional horse-drawn funerals to our bereaved families as well as to other funeral directors.
All our horse-drawn vehicles are over one hundred years old and date back to the reign of Queen Victoria. Drawing these beautiful coaches and carriages are Belgian Blacks, which have been traditional funeral horses for centuries.
Our carriages are drawn by either a pair or team of four horses with the choice between black or white livery. The horses are dressed with plumes. Plumes were predominant in the Victorian era but they were banned in 1914 because when wet the heavy weight of the head-dress caused the horse's head to droop. Today we use dyed black ostrich feathers to adorn the heads of our funeral horses as a token of this past tradition.
Mourners may wish to walk behind the horse-drawn hearse or we can, of course, provide a following mourners carriage or limousines.
